Good news for wing lovers, which is most of us, Duff’s Famous Wings is now in Rochester, NY. The Rochester location opened on West Henrietta Road in Brighton.  With a long tradition of offering great wings, starting in 1969 in Buffalo, a local tavern known simply as Duff’s served up their first batch of chicken wings.  Selling nearly 20 pounds of wings a week, Duff’s began to create a name for itself and a reputation for having the best wings in Buffalo.

 

 

The popular Village Bakery and Cafe will be opening their third location at Eastview Mall this summer.  Using local, real ingredients, the Village Bakery will be a welcome spot to break away from the hustle and bustle of the mall to get a good cup of coffee and a meal made with real ingredients not fillers and preservatives.

 

 

A new restaurant opened at Corn Hill Landing: Chef Nic Grammatico has opened Black Sheep.  The restaurant’s name pays homage to the chef’s famous dad, Lou Gramm, and to his band before he joined Foreigner.  Black Sheep offers crafted cocktails, an American style menu using only fresh, local ingredients with every item cooked from scratch, and jazz on the weekends.  Black Sheep joins Tony D’s  and West Edge at Corn Hill Landing, making it once again a thriving after work destination with great views overlooking the river.  The kitchen hours differ from the bar hours; check rocblacksheep.com for details.

 

 

Warfield’s Bistro, a sister restaurant of the popular Warfield’s Restaurant in Clifton Springs, recently opened near Eastview Mall in Victor.   If you love the original, then you’ll be happy that Chef Phil Yautzy, will oversee the menu at both locations, which will have some similarities. The Victor location will have more of a bistro feel with items ranging from filet mignon to artisan pizzas and a bar offering a variety of craft cocktails.  They are open for lunch and dinner, with a full takeout menu.

 

 

 

The highly regarded Brown Hound Bistro of Naples, NY is expanding in the Memorial Art Gallery.  Phase 1 is the opening of Brown Hound Downtown, a bakery and coffee shop in the Memorial Art Gallery atrium, which opened at the end of December.  They serve coffee and espresso drinks and an assortment of baked goods made from scratch, including cookies, scones, candy and more.  Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week.  The next phase will expand on the concept they started in Naples serving fresh, local, seasonal, sustainable fare. It will have a full bar, again with a local approach, including beer, wine, cider, spirits and craft cocktails.  Side note: If you’ve never been to the Brown Hound in Naples, put it on your New Year’s must visit list. You’ll be glad you did!

 

 

Ever look at the unused Brown’s Race, the old millrace in the High Falls area, and dream what could be done with it?  Well, Greentopia has taken that dream to reality and created the FlourGarden. Construction will be collated in a few more days, and in the spring, the 300 foot long unused artificial race will be a sustainable, native-planted garden with trees, shrubs, flowering plants and ground cover.  There will also be free WiFi and fountains and lights that promise to impress.  It will be a fitting tribute to the geography and history of High Falls, and a great place to visit anytime of year.  Check out the bigger picture with the Garden Aerial project which will include a pedestrian bridge across the top of the falls, an arboretum, trails gardens and parks by the falls.
