Public Parklet, University Ave, Rochester

After meeting initial approval from the city and surpassing it’s first fundraising goal through a Kickstarter campaign, organizers Joe Bean Coffee, modern furniture collective Staach, consulting group Slow Road, and The City of Rochester, are bringing the first parklet to the area on University Ave in the city.  Utilizing a 95 foot long stretch of an unused fire lane, the space will be transformed into a sustainable, accessible area featuring built-in seating, bike parking, and greenery.  Popular in San Francisco, where 57 have been built since 2010, it is hoped that this will be the first of many parklets in Rochester.  Construction is expected to start in the spring.
